STOWE HOUSE
GARTER ROOM SERVERY AND STATE ROOM REFECTORY

Stowe House, has been described as one of the most majestic English houses of the 18th Century.
The house has a magnificent enfilade of 10 state rooms running from west to east over a distance of some 150 yards. The five state rooms to the west of the Marble Loggia are currently given over to the refectory areas for the School.
In 2007 A+K were appointed to design and develop a new scheme for these refectory areas to enhance the "breaking of bread", dining traditions for the pupils, whilst remaining suitable for the corporate and hospitality trade, and reflecting the history of the building.
Mark Nicholls, design consultant to A+K produced a new plan for the complete West wing
enabling the original state rooms to function more adequately for the day to day requirements of a large school. Part of this proposal involved the relocation of the servery to the Garter Room which had been rebuilt in 1935.

The Garter Room servery, now complete, will enable the remaining state rooms which retain much of their original fabric to be refurbished in the coming years as part of Stowe Schools ongoing programme of conservation and refurbishment.
