CRICKLEWOOD
RESIDENTIAL
LONDON

The Roman Catholic Parish Church of St Agnes in Cricklewood, North West London, approached Arthurell and Kirkland in 2013 to look into the possibility of building accommodation somewhere on their site to house a retired priest.

After consultation with the parish priest regarding the use of their site, it was ascertained that the old classrooms above the hall in the old School building were not used, and had been effectively empty for many years. A+K advised that this space be converted into flats which could be used for accommodation for a retired priest if necessary, and the remainder rented out to provide income for the parish.

A+K took this project on a traditional procurement route through from concept stages through to completion in June 2016.
The conversion was contentious because the proposal was technically against Barnet's Planning Policy preventing loss of community use space, but A+K put together extensive documentation to prove that the space was not required for community use, and that the school use had been transferred to another location locally many years previous. The first floor of the old school building has been converted into three spacious flats, one 1-bedroom flat and two 2-bedroom flats, all retaining the large windows and high ceilings which were features of the original space.
